The theme of this month’s hop is Designer Series Paper.

I’m in the process of putting together some Boxes of Sunshine to delivery to friends and family so I decided to use the Starburst Technique I taught at a previous stamping retreat. The Starburst Technique uses triangular wedges of Designer Series Paper to create rays of pattern in a sunburst design. It’s an ideal way to show off the beautiful designs and coordination of Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Papers.

I started my project with a past Card Layout I created for a retreat.

Here is the original card we created at the Leavenworth Washington Winter Technique Retreat in March 2017.  It used the popular Dragonfly Dreams bundle which has now retired.

The Sunburst technique perfectly highlights the beautiful designs of the 2020–2022 In Color 6″ X 6″ Designer Series Paper.

To make the sunbursts cut strips of designer series paper 1-1/2″ x 5″ and then cut them diagonally.  Adhere on a 3-3/4″ x 4-1/4″ Whisper White scrap piece of cardstock.  I left a space in between each strip this time.

I’m obsessed with the new trend setting In Color – Bumblebee.  It is like a ray of sunshine….not too bright.   I’ve been inspired to use the big and bold greetings lately.  This time I used the Ridiculously Awesome stamp set by Stampin’ Up! (#152512).   I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder on Basic Black cardstock and fussy cut the greeting.  To follow the dot theme, I used a mask from the Basic Pattern Decorative Masks and my sponge brayer to add polka dots to the envelope.

There are a couple of other ways you can create a sunburst technique for your project.  Try hand-cut layers or use our Stitched Triangles Dies.
